She is not ironic.
Alanis Morissette came out as pansexual on the Nov. 3 episode of the “Handsome” podcast, co-hosted by Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster and Mae Martin.
Toward the end of the segment, Feimster told the singer, “I’m sorry to the men who hurt you, but I’m not sorry to the songs that came from it,” adding, “Did that make you want to be a lesbian at any point?”
Morissette replied: “I’m pansexual, so yes.”
To this, Notaro interjected: “Wait, you’re not really pansexual, are you?”
“I am,” Morissette clarified.
When the hosts joked that she should have started the podcast with this news, Morissette joked, “I like to leave that for the epilogue.” »
Pansexuality can be defined as sexual, romantic, or emotional attraction to people regardless of their gender identity or sex.
Morissette recently remarked on her “incredible” moment in 2000 kissing Sarah Jessica Parker during an episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in September, saying the idea for a same-sex kiss for her appearance on the show came directly from her.
“I contacted them and said, ‘Could this maybe be a great time for Carrie to have a lesbian moment?’ And they said, “Well, yes. We thought the same thing.
“I remember kissing her – it felt really good,” she noted, calling the experience “easy” and “dynamic.”
The Canadian singer-songwriter has been married to her husband Mario “Souleye” Treadway since 2010. They are the parents of Ever, 15, Onyx, 10, and Winter, 7.
Morissette has been making headlines lately, after filing a lawsuit against her former tour manager in September, accusing him of blackmail by trying to frame her for drug dealing.
The Canadian singer’s trial in Los Angeles court called ex-tour manager Keren Urinov a “disgruntled” ex-employee and described how she allegedly tried to extort her boss after being caught carrying drugs in her luggage while on tour in Europe, which later threatened to shift the blame to Morissette.
Morisette rose to fame in 1995 with her album “Jagged Little Pill” – which became one of the defining and best-selling records of the decade. It was adapted into a Broadway musical in 2019, for which she won two Tony Awards. This year, Morissette was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
