All locations of the Great Fairy Fountain in Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Switch 2)

Large fairy fountains provide powerful permanent upgrades and new abilities in Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Hidden all over the world – although usually near main dungeons – these secret chambers are home to a Great Fairy who will grant you a magical gift when you play Zelda’s Lullaby and cough up a few Rupees. (If you want to get them all, you’ll need a bigger wallet.)

There are six in total to find – and this Great Fairy Fountain locations guide for Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 can help you find each one.

All locations of the Great Fairy Fountain

The following shows all the Great Fairy Fountain locations, in the order you’ll encounter them if you follow the critical path (as shown in our Zelda: Ocarina of Time walkthrough).

Although the text indicates locations, clicking/tapping each image makes it easier to see the corner mini-map for the exact location in a given area.

Din’s Fire (Large Fairy Fountain #1)

Location
Summit of Death Mountain
Requirements
Bombs (unlocked in Dodongo Cave)

Climb Death Mountain as Child Link: You’ll need bombs to clear the path and, ideally, the Hylian Shield to block rocks from the eruption that follows (although this isn’t technically essential).

After climbing the wall with the Skulltulas, bomb the wall to the left of Kaepora Gaebora to find the Great Fairy Fountain.

Play Zelda’s Lullaby on the Triforce inside to get Din’s Fire, a fire-based spell useful for certain combat encounters and puzzles.

Fun fact: Din’s Fire is the only upgrade on this list that you need to complete the story, so if you only have time for one large fairy fountain, make sure it’s this one. (And if you don’t? Well, you need to make time if you want to see the credits!)

Spin Attack (Large Fairy Fountain #2)

Location
Hyrule Castle as child link
Requirements
Bombs (unlocked in Dodongo Cave)

Return to Hyrule Castle after unlocking the bombs, and once you pass the opening portal as the path turns left, there is a rock you can bomb in the outer right corner.

Inside is a large fairy fountain that will teach you the Spin Attack.

Fun fact: in the N64 original, this was set in the Great Fairy of Death Mountain listed above, and vice versa; I guess the need for Din’s Fire means putting him first makes sense in the remake.

Wind of Farore (Great Fairy Fountain #3)

Location
Zora Fountain as Child Link
Requirements
None / progress in the Zora domain

In the Zora Fountain – the same area where you access Lord Jabu-Jabu’s belly – head to the southernmost corner, where there is a wall you can bomb and access.

This unlocks Farore’s Wind, allowing you to set a waypoint in a dungeon to return to later. This is less useful in the remake with the Switch 2’s instant sleep and resume feature, but if you have to leave a dungeon halfway to get upgrades, it’s still worth having in your back pocket.

Magic Meter Upgrade (Great Fairy Fountain #4)

Location
Death Mountain Crater as adult link
Requirements
Megaton Hammer (unlocked in the Fire Temple)

Complete the Fire Temple and, in the Death Mountain crater area where it is located, cross the bridge to the south where you can return to Goron City.

Hit the rocks blocking the cave entrance on your right with the Megaton Hammer for the Great Fairy Fountain location, where you’ll get a magic meter upgrade, doubling the amount of magic you can hold and use.

Nayru’s Love (Great Fairy Fountain #5)

Location
Evil Desert Colossus
Requirements
Longshot and Lenses of Truth (in order to cross the Mirage Desert)

On the north side of the Evil Desert Colossus area is a wall that you can bomb.

This grants access to a large fairy fountain and Nayru’s Love, a defensive spell you can cast during combat.

Defensive Improvement (Great Fairy Fountain #6)

Location
Ganondorf Castle
Requirements
Golden Gauntlets

In Ganondorf Castle, complete the Shadow Barrier path, granting you the Golden Gauntlets upgrade. Now leave the castle, turn left after the bridge and lift the giant block at the end of the dead end.

Inside is a Great Fairy Fountain location featuring one of the best upgrades in the game: a defensive upgrade that cuts all incoming attacks in half. It’s worth doing before the final battle!
