Amanda Seyfried is having a pretty “interesting” weekend now that Elizabeth Holmes is back in the news.
This weekend, the actress attended the Academy Museum’s sixth annual gala, just days after the wide release of Nathan Fielder’s documentary, You can see everythingwhich traces Holmes’ final days with his family before his incarceration in 2023.
Seyfried, who played the founder of Theranos in the Hulu limited series The dropout, did his best to avoid talking about the document in discussions with several journalists. The result was a series of interactions that, according to Seyfried herself, were rather strange.
“It’s interesting, yeah, it’s interesting,” Seyfried said The Hollywood Reporter in a clip, when asked if she was having difficulty giving interviews at the moment. “But, for good reason. I don’t know, I think everything that happens is meant to happen (and) everything, everyone that’s in your life is meant to be in your life.”

She continued: “It’s just, sort of…and I’m here tonight. I’m supposed to be here, and I can come home tomorrow and I’m supposed to be home and so on.”
When asked if her “interesting” life had made regular conversations difficult, she replied: “Only lately.”
Seyfried was then asked what she would prefer to be asked about because there are “some things (she) can’t talk about,” to which the actress responded, “I like to talk about emus. I like to talk about Halloween. And you can chat with me if you want to talk about anything to do with apple pie and olives and really good ciders.”
Needless to say, fans were pretty confused after seeing the clip on social media. And Seyfried understands why.
“What am I saying,” she commented under Instagram footage from the interview.
During another encounter that same night, Seyfried cautiously approached a Variety journalist with the warning: “Don’t ask me anything! Don’t ask me anything.”
The reporter cheekily responded, “About what?”
“I have nothing to say,” Seyfried added. When asked what brought her to this event, she replied simply: “Diamonds.”

“Tell me about these diamonds,” the interviewer said. “Because I can see everything.”
The cheeky reference to Fielder’s document earned a smile from Seyfried, although the actress continued to avoid direct references to Holmes. “I don’t know what you mean,” she said.
The reporter then changed tack, asking if Seyfried expected The dropout to return for a second season. She laughed nervously and replied, “I don’t think so. But life is long.”
As for whether she followed Holmes’ story, Seyfried responded vaguely: “From time to time.”

All the embarrassment comes from Seyfried trying to hide the fact that… SPOILER ALERT – it actually has an important role to play in You can see everything. Midway through the three-hour documentary, co-directed by Fielder and Lance Oppenheim (Prime time), Seyfried joins the project to play Holmes in reenactments for Fielder’s film.

Seyfried first appears when Holmes watches The gave up with Fielder and his partner, Billy Evans. Later, after the disgraced entrepreneur begins his 11-year prison sentence, Fielders calls on Seyfried to replace Holmes. Outside of the reenactments, Seyfried becomes something of a major character in the story, spending time with Evans, talking to Holmes on the phone, and helping Fielder process some of what he witnessed during his month of filming the family.
Seyfried’s presence in the film is one of the many surprises that You can see everything has in reserve and as the documentary has just been released in theaters on October 16, the actress has not yet publicly discussed her participation in the film. That means that until she’s ready to officially let the cat out of the bag and talk about her presence in the film, there could be a few more awkward interactions on the horizon for Seyfried.
