American airlines is raising the annual fees on two of its rewards credit cards for the first time since 2018 and adding new benefits like TSA PreCheck credit and points on hotel spending.

The costs on the Citi The AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard will increase from $99 to $150 per year. It’s the first increase since 2018, when the fee was raised from $95 to $99, an airline spokeswoman said.

The Citi AAdvantage Business Mastercard will also get a fee increase and will now cost $150 per year.

Airlines and their banking partners regularly increase fees on rewards credit cards.

These cards generate billions of dollars a year for airlines, which make money when the miles are sold to banks, which then redistribute them to customers. The U.S. move, announced Tuesday, follows similar increases from competitors such as United Airlines.

In the meantime, American Express last year, the fees for its popular Platinum card, which provides access to airport lounges, were increased from $695 to $895 per year. JPMorgan Chase has increased the annual fee for its competing card, the Sapphire Reserve, from $550 to $795.

New U.S. card benefits include three times more AAdvantage miles on hotels booked through the U.S. portal, a credit of up to $120 every four years for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, and an annual $100 statement credit on in-flight purchases like food.

The new fees take effect January 24.
