Could this be the most essential airport lounge in America?
You could certainly make this argument about American Airlines’ new club, which was just announced for Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).
The American unveiled on Tuesday its project to build a vast Admirals Club inside the main atrium of the CLT.
Construction is expected to begin later this year.
Once completed, this outpost will be the largest in the US network, surpassing even the the massive new space the airline is building in Dallas.
And it will be a major boost to the carrier’s lounge offerings in North Carolina.

Essential living room
AA’s two existing Admirals Club locations in Charlotte are rundown and often overrun with guests.
This is far from ideal at CLT, which is the second busiest hub in the United Statesbehind only its home port at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).
American is currently working on a new building which will span over 40,000 square feet and offer a host of modern amenities including shower rooms, bars and lounge areas.

“Designing a living room that gives our guests more space to relax, work and recharge is our top priority,” Heather Garboden, AA’s chief customer officer, said in a statement announcing the news.
The news of this latest Admirals Club for American comes as no great surprise.
Last year, the carrier described a major investment in the CLT show, which included an upper-level flagship lounge and an expansion of the airline’s Admirals Club area at the airport.
At the time, AA did not specify whether that meant an entirely new club or a renovation of one of its existing outposts in Charlotte.
Now we know: it’s getting a brand new Admirals Club, which will be bigger than any of its current lounges.
The new location of American’s Admirals Club
This new Admirals Club will be centrally located for passengers passing through CLT, located on the mezzanine level of the large atrium where passengers enter just after passing through security.
It should be easily accessible from CLT Halls A, B and C – and a short walk from Hall D.
The club will be a short walk from the airport’s E gates, where AA’s many regional flights depart.
American’s CLT Show Footprint Expands
American did not share an estimated opening date for the new facility. Its two existing CLT Admirals clubs will remain open during construction.
Beyond these new Admirals Club and American’s Flagship Lounge planned for Charlotte, the carrier also has has opened a new permanent takeout outpost called Provisions by Admirals Club.
This smaller space is located in Concourse A of the airport.
Conclusion
Charlotte is expected to see a ton of new airport lounges open in the coming years.
In addition to American’s three new facilities, the hub is expected to receive a Capital One Lounge And a second American Express outpost. Additionally, Delta Air Lines opened a beautiful new Sky Club less than two years ago.
