Animated TV show ‘Artemis Fowl’ takes place at Disney

Artemis Fowl is coming to television.

An animated series adaptation of the hit book franchise has been greenlit for Disney Channel and Disney+. Author Eoin Colfer announced the news during the “25 Years of Artemis Fowl” panel at New York Comic Con.

Colfer will executive produce the series, which follows 13-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, who “discovers an underworld of armed and dangerous — and surprisingly high-tech — fairies as he launches a plan to capture one and steal her magic to heal his dying mother and save his family,” according to the logline.

The first book “Artemis Fowl” was published in 2001, followed by Colfer with 10 additional novels, the last of which was released in 2021. The series has sold more than 35 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 48 languages.

This is not the first time that the child prodigy has appeared on screen. A live-action film adaptation based on the first book debuted on Disney+ in 2020 to negative reviews. The film was removed from the streaming service in 2023.

“For more than two decades, Eoin Colfer’s ‘Artemis Fowl’ books have captivated readers around the world with unforgettable characters, imaginative world-building and gripping adventures,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family. “Bringing this beloved franchise to life in the form of an animated series gives us the opportunity to introduce a new generation to the world of Artemis while honoring longtime fans who have cherished these stories for years.”

Colfer said, “I’m proud and excited to be part of the amazing team bringing the animated ‘Artemis Fowl’ to the screen. Everyone is so talented and supportive that I’m confident the fairy world is in excellent hands.”

The “Artemis Fowl” series is also produced by Ben Juwono and Colleen Evanson.
