Over the weekend, a handful of iPhone Duo users reported that their interior screen had cracked along the hinge. In a statement to 9to5MacApple said it is “aware of an issue affecting the internal display on a small number of iPhone Duo units” and that affected users can contact AppleCare for a replacement.
Here is Apple’s full statement:
“Response to iPhone Duo from early adopters has been incredibly positive, and we’re seeing exciting things from developers who are quickly updating their apps to take advantage of its unique form factor. We are aware of an issue affecting the internal screen of a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users are experiencing issues with the screen on their iPhone Duo, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.”
The company says the issue affects a very small number of iPhone Duo units and appears to appear relatively quickly. Most iPhone Duos are not affected. You do not need AppleCare+ to have your iPhone Duo replaced for this issue. If you purchased from a carrier, you must contact AppleCare directly, not your carrier, to have your device replaced.
Reports of the issue surfaced on Reddit and other forums over the weekend. Affected users report that interior screens have cracked along the hinge center line. While a number of user reports on Reddit showing the issue are legitimate, there are also a handful of fake AI-generated reports.
The folks at iFixit have highlighted a few potential causes of the issues, with certain components potentially putting excessive pressure on the screen.
