In a statement shared with MacRumors Today, an Apple spokesperson said availability of the iPhone Duo will be “limited” to walk-in customers at Apple Stores in some countries when the device launches this Friday, October 23.

Full statement from Apple:

On Friday morning, our teams look forward to welcoming customers to Apple Stores to experience iPhone Duo and the incredible iPhone lineup for themselves. Apple Stores will offer a limited quantity of iPhone Duo to walk-in customers, and we’re working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers’ hands as quickly as possible.

Apple said that given the “extraordinary” demand for pre-orders for the iPhone Duo, it expects the supply to sell out quickly on Friday.

Apple said availability of the iPhone Duo will be limited on Friday to walk-in customers in the United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Mexico, Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Apple said there would also be drop-in delivery to some Apple Stores in Italy, but it did not specify which ones.

In Macau, Apple said the iPhone Duo would be available to walk-in customers only on launch day and that inventory would be limited.

Apple said the iPhone Duo would not be available for walk-in purchase on launch day in France, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. In these countries, customers will need to make a reservation for Apple Store pickup at a specific time slot through Apple’s online store.

Apple is restricting walk-in availability in some countries at launch, partly to manage crowd sizes and as an anti-scalping measure.

Apple’s online store is currently advising customers to check again on Saturday, October 24 regarding Apple Store pickup reservations. It is therefore not clear whether it will be possible to make a reservation on Friday October 23, the day of the launch.
