Bail hearing of CJP leaders postponed as magistrate cites threat to life
Das and Ranka were taken into police custody for five days on October 14.

NEW DELHI: The bail hearing of Cockroach Janta Party functionaries Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka was postponed on Sunday after the special executive magistrate failed to arrive at the scheduled time and later recused himself citing threat to his life. The Delhi Police have registered a complaint in connection with the alleged threat. Police sources said the SEM was under pressure to release Ranka and Das without delay. The CJP argued that the alleged threat constituted a separate complaint and suggested that police review call detail records (CDRs) to verify whether the SEM number had been shared from a CJP member’s device. The magistrate refused.Das and Ranka were sent to five-day judicial custody on October 14 after they entered Jantar Mantar, which had been designated as a designated protest site, by crossing the barricades. The CJP alleged a delay in the bail hearing, with the group’s legal head Ratna Singh also saying four bails had been rejected on “vague grounds”.
