Ben Affleck has made a rare comment about the “respect” he has for his second ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez.
Variety asked the “Gone Girl” actor — who was a producer on Lopez’s “Kiss of the Spider Woman” film — why she was “overlooked” in Hollywood.
“I’m biased. I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for what she can do,” Affleck, 54, said during Wednesday’s interview.
“What I’ve discovered with the awards is that sometimes the degree of commercial success of a product doesn’t always match my tastes,” he added.
“It’s part of this weird, subjective business where people bring a lot of their own stuff.”
The “Good Will Hunting” star said he doesn’t “always think the right person” wins “the right prize.”
“But guess what? I don’t think you die and go to heaven and God says, ‘That was the real best film in 1986,’” he shared.
“At the end of the day, it’s just a group of people voting for movie awards,” Affleck added.
Elsewhere in the interview with Variety, the two-time Oscar winner talked about Lopez, his first ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, and how stars are now supposed to be brands.
“Artists should be making money. You see it overwhelmingly in the music business. People, tacitly or explicitly, are expected to make money elsewhere,” he said.
“Now you have your social media identity. You work to develop it. I’ve seen Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Garner do incredible work cultivating and increasing value in these spaces,” Affleck added.
“Don’t think this isn’t a real job. I couldn’t do it. What am I going to do, unpack something?”
Lopez, 57, filed for divorce from Affleck in August 2024 after two years of marriage.
The “Gigli” co-stars settled their divorce in January 2025.
Despite their split, Affleck and the pop star remained cordial and reunited several times publicly.
