“Bloodaxe”: release date and teaser for the historic Prime Video series

Prime Video has revealed that its highly anticipated historical series Blood Ax will launch on January 20, 2027.

The team behind the Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst series also revealed a first teaser at New York Comic Con on Friday, which can be viewed above.

The series chronicles the rise of Nordic raiders Erik Bloodaxe (Xavier Molyneux) and his wife Gunnhild, Mother of Kings (Jessica Madsen). It will tell the story of their struggle for the Norwegian throne, as the country is torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties and bloody betrayals.

According to the synopsis, “With war looming and chaos consuming the kingdom, drawing in the ruthless kings of other Scandinavian countries, and even a powerful English ruler, the stage is set for a thunderous, cataclysmic, compelling and utterly magical new Norse saga.” »

Season 2 is already in production in Ireland, with MGM Television producing. Michael and Horatio Hirst are the co-creators, showrunners, writers and executive producers of the series.

Last week, Blood Ax revealed other cast members from season 2, including Maddy Ambus (The return of Stanley Atwell, Utopia), Steven Brand (X saw, The Scorpion King) and Lasse Steen (The Promised Land, What separates us).

Additional executive producers on Blood Ax include Morgan O’Sullivan under his O’Sullivan Productions label, Steve Stark under his Toluca Pictures label, Arturo Interian, John Weber and Sheila Hockin.
