Bombardier invests $270 million in the United States

Bombardier just put a high price on its argument that it’s good for America. The Montreal-based plane maker says it will spend $270 million to expand its U.S. operations and create 800 jobs, with projects in Texas, Indiana, Kansas and Connecticut, reports the The Wall Street Journal. About half of these new jobs will be located in the Lone Star State, according to the Globe and Mail. The timing is remarkable: the move comes days after President Trump moved from criticizing Bombardier as a “piggy bank” and calling for an end to its sales to hailing its plans on Truth Social as creating “THOUSANDS” of American jobs, according to the Newspaper.

Bombardier says the initiative, which includes a new training center in Wichita, Kansas, and a service center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, opening in November, will help increase the number of jobs it supports in the United States above 33,000, spread across more than 20 states. “Based on our constructive conversations with the U.S. administration, we see a path forward for our highly skilled aerospace workers, as well as a positive environment for Bombardier to continue to seek direct investments to increase our U.S. presence,” company CEO Eric Martel said in a statement, according to the CBC.
