A 6-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man were killed and 10 others were injured when a woman drove a truck into a youth football game at a sports complex in the city of Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The 34-year-old driver, from Garden City, Kansas, was in custody, but it was not immediately clear whether the incident at the Stryker Sports Complex was intentional, police said.
“She has been cooperative so far in the investigation,” Wichita Police Capt. Aaron Moses said at an evening news conference.

The two dead were from the town of McPherson, Moses said, but were not related.
Among the injured were five children aged 5 to 9, as well as five men and women aged 28 to 68, he said.
“These injuries range from minor injuries, such as bruises, to extremely serious injuries,” the captain said. “But at this point we believe these are not life-threatening.”
Another patient, a 61-year-old woman, was hospitalized for “non-traumatic medical issues,” he said.
People began calling 911 shortly before 3:30 p.m., Moses said, “reporting that a vehicle had driven through a soccer game at the Stryker Soccer Complex.”
First responders, including Kansas Highway Patrol officers, Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies and nearby Bel Aire police, found the boy and man dead at the scene, he said.
They also saw passersby treating the injured.
“They saw community members and citizens providing medical aid to those who were injured,” he said.
The driver was still in the truck, as were the two children, Moses said. One of the women’s children played at the complex, but on a different field than where the accident occurred, he said.
Wichita Mayor Lily Wu said on her personal Facebook page that the incident left her very sad.
“I am heartbroken by reports of a tragic incident at the Stryker Sports Complex,” she said. “My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected, especially the children and families affected.”
Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly said in a statement that she was monitoring the situation and had offered state resources to Wu.
“My condolences go out to the families of the victims, the survivors and all those who were affected by this event,” she said, adding that she was “very grateful” to the first responders.
The Stryker Sports Complex is a municipal facility with 11 turf fields used for “all sports,” it says on its website. The City of Wichita said all events at the facility have been canceled at this time.
The Kansas State High School Activities Association said its scheduled flag football state championship was suspended, along with all of its other games over the weekend.
An investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
In a statement posted to Facebook, the Wichita Police Department asked anyone with video of the incident to upload it so investigators can take a look.
