Russian forces struck a train parked on the platform of Dnipro station on the morning of October 29, killing at least 13 people and injuring at least 13 others, authorities said.
The passenger train was preparing to leave for Zaporizhzhia when the station was attacked by a Russian jet drone, Ukrainian Railways wrote on social media.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the area was attacked around 11 a.m. by four Russian jet drones, three of which were shot down by Ukrainian air defenses before reaching their targets.
Despite the air raid warning and reports of an increased threat, people remained on the platform, Ukrainian Railways added.
At 11:29 a.m., the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Oleksandr Hanzha, reported that doctors were already at the scene of the attack to provide first aid.

“Horrific Russian attack on Dnipro train station,” President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media in response to the attack, “the Russians used a drone to attack a platform where a commuter train and a regular passenger train were located.”
“How many such terrorist attacks has Russia carried out against our people after lifting sanctions against some Russian oligarchs and energy companies, instead of defusing them.”
The attack on Dnipro is just the latest in Russia’s growing campaign to hit Ukraine’s rail infrastructure, including targeting passenger trains themselves.
Russia’s recent targeting of Ukrainian railway facilities – facilitated by the use of jet drones – has led to strict new rules in the event of air raid alerts, with passengers often evacuated in the middle of the countryside for hours until the all-clear is given.
The threat warnings also affect trains waiting at stations, where passengers are also asked to get off the train, although the buildup of people waiting for their train to depart and the reluctance of some to go to shelter often creates new safety risks.
