After Kyle Busch’s celebration of life, his 11-year-old son Brexton took the wheel of the No. 8 Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Cup car that his famous father once drove.
The special ceremony included speeches from Joe Gibbs, Austin Dillon and Samantha Busch, as well as Q&As with Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson, Daniel Suarez, Noah Gragson and Christopher Bell.
When the memorial hour ended and Samantha Busch finished a ten-minute speech, she struggled to hold back tears as she announced that Brexton would now honor her father with a special victory lap.
Moments later, Brexton Busch pulled away from the sidelines in a full-size NASCAR Cup Series car ā the blue Lucas Oil No. 8 Kyle earned his first victory with Richard Childress Racing at Fontana in 2023.
Brexton, at just 11, drove down the front stretch and did burnouts for the fans, stalling briefly before finally spinning the tires. He continued until the rear tires of his Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 were completely flat. His four-year-old sister Lennix then handed him the checkered flag as he climbed atop the car, waving to the crowd with his father’s signature bow.

As he completed the burnouts, a drone show began in the background, honoring Kyle as they lit up the night sky. Brexton then hugged his mother and sister on the infield, and the crowd cheered.
A few weeks ago there were photos of Brexton at the RCR store, sitting inside a Cup car and getting kitted out in preparation for this touching display.
Team owner Richard Childress later said that Austin Dillon personally worked with Brexton and taught him how to overcome burnouts like this behind the RCR race shop.

Kyle Busch won 234 races in all three national divisions ā more than any other driver in history ā and died suddenly just days after his eventual victory in a NASCAR Truck Series race at Dover. It was May 21 and he was only 41 years old.
Since his tragic and unexpected passing, there have been many tributes to Kyle Busch everywhere NASCAR has gone, but this moment in Charlotte Friday night may be the most special tribute of all.
Brexton continues his own racing career and posts updates after each event, and even scored a Legends car victory less than two months after losing his father.
