Brian Schottenheimer’s first six postgame press conferences this season averaged nearly 13 minutes each. His availability Monday night after a 38-21 victory over the Eagles lasted just 4 minutes.
Asked about his brevity, Schottenheimer replied: “I’m good. I’m excited for our guys.”
This may be Schottenheimer’s response to criticism he leveled last week when, in separate interviews, he said, “I know what a great coach I am,” and called himself an “elite playing advisor.”
“Certainly a hungry and angry version from Shotty,” Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said, via Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com. “It’s not like he’s naive. It’s not like he hasn’t heard any buzz about it, whether it’s the announcement of the games or whatever other doubts exist. But we support it. He knows it. He is a guy who is very proud of his work, very proud of his team.
“Everyone handles things differently, so I don’t blame him to a certain extent. We support him. Most importantly, it’s just about going out there and executing on Sunday.”
The Cowboys saved their season by improving to 3-4, but they are just 10-13-1 since Schottenheimer became the team’s head coach in 2025. The Cowboys were 1-7-1 in prime-time games under Schottenheimer before Monday night.
However, they had their best performance of the year against the Eagles, gaining 416 yards and getting six defensive stops, including one takeaway.
Schottenheimer disputed that Monday was a “must-win,” but he admitted the win “puts us right back into contention for the NFC East.”
