Teenager killed after shooting four people at elementary schoolpublished at 03:24 BST
Four people have been killed in a shooting at an elementary school in the US state of Oregon.
The shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School began around 1 p.m., when police were called by someone who said shots had been fired at their car.
Immediately afterward, police began receiving emergency calls reporting that the suspect, who police said was a 16-year-old boy, had entered the school.
A passerby saw the shooting begin, chased the attacker to the school and shot him, police said.
Three minutes later, the police arrived on the scene. They confirmed that the attacker had been killed, then searched the school.
The victims included three children ages 5, 8 and 11 and a teacher, Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said. A seven-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher were taken to a local hospital with “serious injuries,” he said.
Bend city schools were closed Friday as officials said the community needed time to heal.
