SANTA CLARA, California. —
California’s Great America Amusement Park in Santa Clara is expected to close on Labor Day 2027, the park announced Friday.
The theme park’s 2027 farewell season ends a decades-long history. The park opened in 1976 as Marriott’s Great America. The park has undergone several changes of ownership over the years. Great America is currently owned and operated by Six Flags.
“For more than five decades, this Santa Clara theme park has brought people together, created family traditions and served as a backdrop for unforgettable memories,” said Dave Vosejpka, park manager for Great America in California, in a press release. “The farewell season is an opportunity for generations of Bay Area guests to return, spend time with family and friends, and revisit the attractions and traditions that have made the park in Santa Clara, California, such an important part of the community.”
This announcement comes as the land lease for the park will expire in June 2028 and will not be renewed. Cedar Fair, the park’s previous owner, which later merged with Six Flags, sold the park’s land in Silicon Valley and has since been re-leased.
The park, located next to Levi’s Stadium, will begin its farewell season in March and details will be released at a later date regarding opening days and times.
