Call of Duty: Warzone adds a weather system that will make each match a little different.
Later this week, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 update will be released, and it will bring big changes to Warzone. Developer Raven Software is adding a bunch of content that matches the mechanics and tone that Modern Warfare 4 brought to the franchise last month. One of the biggest new features in Warzone is a new weather system, meaning the map may have rain, wind, or other effects when you get there.
It looks like the weather will be determined before you even get into the match, so don’t expect weather cycles like you’d see in a game like Grand Theft Auto. The goal is to make Warzone matches feel different every time you play, as battle royale maps have stagnated over the past six years. The weather never changes, which can eventually make the maps a bit boring. However, it can still make the game interesting, and something like rain can have slight changes to gameplay. This could impact visibility, make your steps louder when splashing in puddles, and much more.
Earlier this fall, Wardogs also added weather to multiplayer matches, which brought some big gameplay changes. It’s an interesting change from Call of Duty’s battle royale and one that fans have been wanting to see for some time. Fans also wanted to see a day/night cycle, which could make something like night vision goggles a meaningful piece of equipment. NVGs are part of the game’s DMZ extraction mode, although they are primarily used for closed installations without power.
The new Call of Duty: Warzone update launches with two new maps on November 6 as part of Modern Warfare 4 Season 1.
