Minshew Mania is back in business.
Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur confirmed during his Monday press conference that Gardner Minshew will be the team’s starting quarterback after leading a dramatic win over the Cowboys.
Additionally, rookie Carson Beck will be the backup quarterback, with Jacoby Brissett relegated to third emergency QB.
“Just think it’s the right thing to do: continue (Beck’s) development in terms of getting a little more reps. with the scout team and all that” LaFleur said about making Beck the backup. “He’s week to week, he’s feeling really good right now. So I thought it was the best thing to do.
With Brissett becoming an obvious trade candidate as the third QB, LaFleur did not respond directly when asked if he expected Brissett to be with the club beyond the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
“I just focused on this week,” LaFleur said. “He’s very much a part of this team and he’s excited that he’s still the teammate that I know he is.” »
Brissett was benched Sunday after completing 10 of 23 passes for 119 yards with one interception. In eight games this season, he has completed 63.3 percent of his passes for 1,719 yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Sunday was Minshew’s first appearance of the season. He completed 17 of 23 passes for 188 yards with three touchdowns.
Minshew’s next assignment will be to face the Seahawks in Seattle on Sunday afternoon.
