CHICAGO (WLS) — One person died Monday afternoon in a shooting involving an FBI agent in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, officials said.
The FBI said only that one of its agents was involved in a shooting here, near 18th Street and Union Avenue, just off the Dan Ryan Expressway off-ramp.

Late Tuesday morning, the FBI again closed Union Avenue, from 17th to 18th Streets, to investigate.
The man with a gunshot wound died after being rushed to hospital Monday evening. The Cook County medical examiner’s office said Tuesday morning that the man was dead.
According to the police radio scanner and witnesses, this man appeared to have a weapon, visible on the ground under the bicycle after the shooting.
Twenty-fifth Ward Alderman Byron Sigcho Lopez spoke with investigators at the scene and believes at that time there may have been another shooting on that block of Union Avenue or on the highway just minutes before the FBI agent fired his gun.
There has been a homeless encampment on the street, but the alderman does not believe that is related to this shooting at this time.
“FBI agents didn’t speak to anyone in the camp until 11 p.m. last night, so it’s clear there’s no connection to the camp,” Sigcho-Lopez said. “Tragically, there is someone who died, so yes, we demand a full investigation into what motivated this shooting.”
The city cleared the encampment early Tuesday morning and efforts were made to get anyone unhoused into a nearby facility.
The FBI said in a statement: “The FBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on October 26, 2026, near West 18th and South Union Avenue in Chicago. The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously.
