Christopher Nolan’s thriller “The Prestige” returns to theaters next year in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary.
Disney will re-release the film on January 29, 2027. It will premiere on 70mm and Imax screens. In the two decades since, Nolan has revolutionized these premium formats and generated massive interest in Imax and others through blockbusters like “Oppenheimer” and “The Odyssey.”
“I’m very excited to bring ‘The Prestige’ back to the big screen, and especially excited to offer audiences the chance to see it on 70mm film and on Imax for the first time,” Nolan said in a statement.
Originally released on October 20, 2006, “The Prestige” follows the decades-long rivalry between two stage magicians (Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman). Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, Andy Serkis and David Bowie complete the cast. The twisty thriller grossed around $100 million at the worldwide box office and was nominated for two Academy Awards. In addition to directing, Nolan co-wrote the film with his brother Jonathan and produced it alongside his wife, Emma Thomas, and Aaron Ryder.
In the 20 years since “The Prestige,” Nolan has established himself as the greatest director of his generation after directing films such as the “Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception,” “Interstellar,” “Oppenheimer” and “The Odyssey.” After winning the first Oscars of his career for “Oppenheimer” in 2023, including those for best director and best film, Nolan is back in the awards race with “The Odyssey”. His latest tentpole made a splash with $1.788 billion worldwide, including a record $550 million in Imax.
