‘Chucky’ Creator Reacts to Nicki Minaj’s Pro-MAGA Post

Writer-director Don Mancini, whose credits include the “Child’s Play” franchise, is calling out Nicki Minaj for trying to rebrand his best-known creation as a MAGA Republican during the midterm elections.

On Tuesday, Minaj shared an AI-generated illustration of Chucky, the doll possessed by the serial killer from the “Child’s Play” films, on

“HAPPY ELECTION DAY!!! wrote the rapper, who has spent much of the last year aligning herself with President Donald Trump and his MAGA agenda.

Tuesday evening, Minaj’s message sparked a fiery response from Mancini.

“IMPOSTER,” he wrote on X. “CHUCKY IS PART OF THE BLUE WAVE THAT WILL ELIMINATE ALL CORRUPTION.”

And about an hour later, Mancini apparently reacted to the election results with another photo of Chucky — this time with blue hair — and a follow-up message for Minaj.

“Too bad, Nicki! No AI, by the way!” he joked.

Minaj has previously referenced “Child’s Play” on her social media platforms.

Earlier this year, she used a photo of Chucky while reacting to journalist Don Lemon’s arrest in January on federal civil rights charges related to his coverage of a protest at a Minnesota church where an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official was pastor.

“HOW DARE YOU? I WANT THIS Psychic IN JAIL!!!!” she wrote, after describing Lemon with a homophobic slur. “HE NEVER DOES THIS TO ANY OTHER RELIGION. LOCK HIM UP!!!!”

Mancini, who is gay, said he drew inspiration from his own childhood, as well as 1980s consumerism, when writing the original “Child’s Play,” released in 1988.

The franchise has since expanded to include seven big screen sequels. A television series, simply titled “Chucky”, broadcast from 2021 to 2024 on Syfy and USA.

As Mancini pointed out on X, Chucky was revealed to have a gender-fluid child in the 2004 film “Seed of Chucky.” The character was developed for the television series, where he was portrayed in human form by the actor. Lachlan Watson.

“There’s also a real connection between the horror genre and the underdog,” Mancini told Them in 2022, while discussing his efforts to incorporate more LGBTQ+ themes into his franchise. “I think a lot of fans and practitioners are drawn to horror because it’s traditionally a refuge for people on the margins or who feel like they’re on the margins.”
