Anthony Richardson Sr. of the Indianapolis Colts faces a misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana following an Oct. 12 traffic stop in Carmel, Indiana, according to FOX59.
“We are aware of the situation involving Anthony Richardson and are currently gathering additional information,” the Colts said in a statement. “We will make no further comment at this time.”

Court documents obtained by FOX59/CBS4 show charges were filed Monday, a week after officers stopped Richardson’s black 2023 Dodge Charger. The vehicle’s registration would have expired and would have been assigned to another vehicle.
Police say the car stopped on the side of the road and officers noticed an “odor of marijuana” as they approached.
Richardson allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana in the car so as not to do it in front of his children. He also told police he had a small amount of marijuana in the car.

The quarterback was handcuffed after exiting the car and officers proceeded to search the vehicle. A small mason jar was allegedly found containing a substance believed to be marijuana and a bag of THC-infused gummies was reportedly opened.
The substance reportedly tested positive for THC. Richardson was not arrested or released and was cited for expired registration and given a summons for possession of marijuana.
A hearing was scheduled for December 9, but has since been canceled. A bench trial will take place in January 2027.

“Anthony takes this matter seriously and respects the legal process,” Richardson’s agent, Deiric Jackson, wrote in a statement. “We ask everyone to let the facts and legal proceedings take their course before drawing conclusions. Anthony remains focused on his responsibilities, his family and his future!”
Richardson is the second Colts player to have an altercation with police this season. Receiver Keenan Allen was charged with two misdemeanors following his arrest in August on suspicion of driving under the influence.
