Costco withdraws application for new store location

Travelers taking Highway 55 will still have to drive a little further to get their $1.50 hot dog and bulk toilet paper.

Costco has withdrawn its application for a new warehouse in Eagle. The wholesaler previously planned a new location at Highway 55 and Hill Road, as BoiseDev reported.

Laura Williams, public information officer for the City of Eagle, confirmed the news to BoiseDev Monday morning.

“They won’t be looking for a Costco in that location, at least,” Williams said. “We’ll see what they do in the future. But they haven’t informed us of any future plans at Eagle at this time.”

The move follows weeks of speculation on social media regarding the status of the warehouse.

BoiseDev reported in August that the project was on hold because the city was waiting for Costco to request a public hearing date.

Meanwhile, Costco is preparing its new store in South Meridian for its grand opening on Nov. 5, as BoiseDev reported. The store is expected to be one of the largest Costcos in the world in terms of square footage, but that is largely due to a back-end distribution center used to help deliver large orders to customers.

Costco only comments on future Costco warehouses two to three months before a new location opens.
