Craig Melvin asks for help during ‘really awkward’ exchange with Parker Posey on ‘Today’ show

Craig Melvin suffered not one but two mortifying moments during his interview with Parker Posey on the “Today Show” Monday morning.

The reporter asked co-host Carson Daly to “save him, please” after an uncomfortable exchange with the actress.

The awkwardness began when the 47-year-old asked Posey about her list of upcoming projects, including a rumored role in a new horror film, saying it was time to “talk horror.”

The former “White Lotus” leaned over to hear better, looking alarmed.

Realizing Posey had misheard him, Melvin clarified, “No, horror-horror.”

The 57-year-old actress confirmed she “thought he was calling her a whore”, which left the presenter eager to explain.

“I didn’t call you a whore!” he insisted. “Horr-, horror, I didn’t enunciate it correctly.”

As Melvin attempted to continue the interview by asking about Posey’s next film, the Emmy nominee revealed that she was no longer involved.

“I don’t,” Posey said, to which Melvin replied, “It says here that you do “Sleepover.”

Posey doubled down on “not doing it again,” which was followed by another cringeworthy silence.

“Okay, well now it’s even more awkward than usual,” Melvin said of the interview. TODAY

Posey then said she was “sweating” and began fanning herself with a sheaf of papers.

“I (did),” she explained. “Yeah, that doesn’t happen anymore. Something happened.”

News broke on October 13 that Posey was set to star in Blumhouse’s Atomic Monster and Universal Pictures’ “Sleepover” next year.

After Posey’s denial, Melvin said the interview took a turn “even more awkward than usual.”

The NBC personality then quoted Posey’s “White Lotus” catchphrase, exclaiming, “Piper, no!”

Assuring Melvin that their uncomfortable exchange was “funny,” Posey ended the interview by talking about People recently dubbing him the sexiest morning show host.

Melvin last chatted with Posey on the morning show in March 2025, raving about how the Golden Globe nominee’s accent was “hands down one of the best parts of ‘White Lotus.'”
