- David Jonsson shared a series of new glimpses into his life on Instagram
- It marks the first time the British actor has posted on his account since the announcement that he would play the new Black Panther in the Marvel franchise’s third installment
- “Took the rear view out, gave it gas,” Jonsson wrote of the shots, some of which showed him in training mode
David Jonsson is in full speed ahead training to become Black Panther.
In a series of glimpses into his life these days via Instagram, the star of the next Black Panther movie indicates he is preparing to suit up as the iconic Marvel superhero on the big screen.
“Took the rear view out, gave it gas,” wrote Jonsson, who turned 33 earlier this month. “Happy fall y’all,” his caption concluded, with an emoji of autumnal leaves.
The British actor could be seen doing a variety of activities ranging from action-packed — hiking shirtless up a steep hill, taking a selfie on a motorcycle — to relaxing — enjoying what appears to be an espresso in a beautiful beach cove. He also was shown doing gentle morning stretches.

The star of The Long Walk and Alien: Romulus was revealed as the new Black Panther at San Diego Comic-Con in July. Jonsson will play the adult son of T’Challa, played by Chadwick Boseman in director Ryan Coogler’s 2018 hit Black Panther.
Boseman died of colon cancer at age 43 in 2020, when Coogler was developing the sequel with Disney. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrived in 2022, centering on T’Challa’s death and introducing the young son he shared with Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia.

Black Panther 3 will reportedly follow Jonsson’s character as he comes of age. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed in December 2024 that it was in the works, with Coogler, 40, set to return as director and co-writer.
Denzel Washington will also play a role in the upcoming film, in a part Coogler said was written specifically for him.
Jonsson’s new Instagram post is the first since he celebrated the announcement of his casting as Black Panther 3‘s lead. “A privilege, an honor,” he captioned a post in July, sharing the movie’s release date: Dec. 15, 2028.

The Black Panther franchise also stars Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett and Michael B. Jordan.
The next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Avengers: Doomsdayin theaters Dec. 18.
Jonsson’s other recent screen projects include prison drama Wasteman and buddy comedy The Chaperones.
