Dax Shepard had to shoot Kate Hudson – even though she was married at the time.
The “Parenthood” alum revealed how he hit the actress while she was still married to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson during Tuesday’s episode of his “Armchair Expert” podcast.
Shepard reminded his guests, Sara and Erin Foster, that he had seen Hudson at a poker game at his brother Oliver Hudson’s house and was not deterred by his presence with Robinson at that time.
“I gave it 111% of all my charm,” he said. “I just thought she was so beautiful and I love (her movie) ‘Almost Famous’ and, oh my God, I can’t believe she’s here.”
“I remember leaving and saying, ‘Well, this is the best job anyone can do,'” he added, doing his best to woo her. “She’s married, whatever, but it was a great first appearance. I just had a crush on her.”
After Kate, 47, and Robinson, 59, finally split in 2006, Shepard said he tried again at a mutual friend’s dinner in Malibu — and it worked.
“From that night on, we were together every day,” he said.
The two briefly dated in 2007 for a few months, and Sara noted that they “got serious quickly.”
Shepard agreed, remembering, “Kissing, you fucking king, all day.” »
Kate was married to Robinson for almost seven years, from 2000 to 2007, and they share a son together, Ryder, 22. She was also engaged to Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, 48, with whom she shares son Bingham, 15.
The “How to Lose a Man in 10 Days” star has been engaged to musician Danny Fujikawa, 40, since September 2021. They share daughter Rani Rose, 8.
Meanwhile, Shepard, 51, has been married to actress Kristen Bell since October 2013. They are parents to two daughters: Lincoln, 13, and Delta, 11.
Shepard and Bell, 46, have made headlines over the years for speaking candidly about the ups and downs of their marriage.
Bell appeared on Monday’s episode of “Armchair Expert” and revealed the bizarre way her husband flirts with her: by complimenting other people’s looks.
“There’s a few things Dax does where he doesn’t have to look up and wink at me, but I know he’s just the best boy,” the “Nobody Wants That” star shared.
Shepard, according to Bell, will tell his waiter or waitress, “Wow, you have amazing eyelashes, beautiful eyes. Great, great job.”
Their admission shocked Bell’s co-stars and Shepard’s co-host Monica Padman, who insisted Shepard was “flirting” with the waitress — and not her, his wife — in these situations.
“But that’s flirting with me,” Bell disagrees, “because he just made someone else feel good.”
