How do you keep things loving with your spouse after over a decade of marriage? There’s a thriving cottage industry dedicated to answering that question, but Kristen Bell thinks her husband, Dax Shepard, has found the answer: he compliments other women in front of her.
Bell and her Nobody wants that co-stars Adam Brody, Justine Lupe and Timothy Simons appeared on Monday’s episode of her husband’s podcast, Armchair expert. During a brief chat about Avan Jogia, who plays Bell’s character’s ex in season three, Shepard shared that he likes to tell other men they’re beautiful — but he’s not opposed to doing it for women, too. “That’s how I know you’re flirting with me,” Bell interjected, “a lot.» According to Bell, when they’re out in the world, “there’s a few things Dax does without having to look up and wink at me, but I know he’s just the best kid.”
To illustrate his point, Bell shared that Shepard will sometimes say to a waiter or waitress, “Wow, you have amazing eyelashes, beautiful eyes, great job.” » Responding to confused looks from her co-stars, she insisted: “He’s flirting with me because he just made someone else feel good.” She said she liked the fact that “my partner actively smiles at people and gives them compliments.”
Bell later clarified that Shepard “never did anything that seemed borderline” when complimenting other women. (He chimed in to say that he doesn’t “do lips.”) “For example, you’ll point out if someone has great eyebrows or cheekbones,” she offered, before sharing an anecdote about the first time Shepard met their friend Heather and said, “Damn, girl, you have the eyebrows of the century.” Are you coming back?
“Everyone saw it and I was the only one who said it,” Shepard added. “That’s why it makes me flutter inside,” Bell continued. “That’s why it gives me butterflies because everyone saw it. Maybe she didn’t get a compliment today. And I’m with the guy who gives compliments to people, which makes people feel good. Mmm.” So if you ever meet Dax Shepard and he says something nice about your eyelashes, just know that he’s flirting with his wife, okay?
This is far from the first time Shepard and Bell have shared questionable details about their dynamic, and not everyone saw this latest revelation as such a romantic gesture. Some commenters on TikTok have argued that while it’s nice to feel comfortable with your partner flirting with someone else, it’s definitely not the same as flirting with them. You. Others accused Shepard of being manipulative. One TikToker very succinctly asked the couple to “stop telling us about your fucking relationship.” What does no one want yet?
