THE BRONCOS WIN! THE BRONCOS WIN! THE BRONCOS WIN!
Both sides of the ball are battling it out for the Denver Broncos in this game against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, in the fourth quarter, the offense and defense came alive. Bo Nix and the offense scored 15 unanswered points to take the lead with less than two minutes remaining. Then the defense put together one of the most incredible goal lines to secure the victory over Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to take the lead in the AFC West.
Broncos vs. Chiefs Final Score
Team | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | Final |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kansas City Chiefs | 7 | 10 | 7 | 0 | 24 |
| Denver Broncos | 3 | 10 | 0 | 15 | 28 |
The Broncos defense came into play to start the game, forcing the Chiefs into three-and-outs on two of their three drives in the first quarter. However, the lone drive ended in a touchdown with a pass from Patrick Mahomes to Rashee Rice on a slant who beat Alex Singleton pretty badly on the play for the touchdown.
However, this call for defense is not about Singleton. He shouldn’t be put in this situation against the Chiefs’ most dynamic threat.
The Broncos responded to that score. After scoring a field goal on their first drive, they got a big play against Courtland Sutton on the final play of the first quarter to put the team back within field goal range on its third possession of the game.
Chiefs 7, Broncos 3. Full first quarter recap.
Chiefs running back Emmet Johnson exploded in the passing game in the second quarter, burning the Broncos linebackers in coverage to the tune of three receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown. His two big plays accounted for a combined 10 of the Chiefs’ 17 points in the first half. Vance Joseph had no answer to give him at the start of the match.
Bo Nix and the Broncos offense kept things close with a long drive in the second quarter, capping a 12-play, 69-yard drive with that fourth down pass to Jaylen Waddle for their first touchdown of the game.
After giving up so many big plays on defense to Johnson, the fact that the Broncos were down by four points at halftime felt like a minor victory.
Chiefs 17, Broncos 13. Full second quarter recap.
Denver’s offense came out and put up three points to start the second half. This has been a predictable trend from them this season and the boos came out after the second as fans realized the momentum was swinging towards the Chiefs.
And that’s what happened. The next drive had the Chiefs driving down the field to give Kansas City a two-score lead late in the third quarter.
Frustration with the offense was building in the stadium.
Chiefs 24, Broncos 13. Full third trimester recap.
When the Broncos finally got the ball back in the fourth quarter after three straight three-and-outs to start the second half, they started the running game behind Jonah Coleman, then made big plays to Adam Trautman and Marvin Mims Jr. to set up a first-and-goal at the five-yard line. They would face a fourth-and-goal where Bo Nix found a wide-open Nate Adkins for the touchdown.
Nix would then find Waddle in the back of the end zone for the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 3 points with over half of the fourth quarter left 24-21 against the Chiefs.
The defense needed a stop and got one, but not before giving Harrison Butker a 54-yard field goal attempt that he missed to give Denver the ball near midfield with 2:32 left in the game trailing by three points.
Nix handed it to Jonah Coleman on the first play, who ran it to the four-yard line to instantly put the Broncos in scoring position on a 52-yard catch and run.
Coleman would come in on the very next play, just after the two-minute warning, to give Denver its first lead since the first quarter and give the Broncos a 28-24 lead.
Of course, Emmett Johnson would return the kickoff 45 yards to his own 44-yard line to give Mahomes and the Chiefs offense a short field to work with in their two-minute attack. A big play by Travis Kelce put them inside the red zone where they would have punched their ticket to the four yard line to run the clock down to less than 15 seconds at the one yard line where they would have a chance to win on the goal line, but the Broncos defense put up an incredible goal line drive to move to 6-2.
