Eagles injury report: Saquon Barkley limited while other key offensive starters miss practice

The Philadelphia Eagles released their first injury report of the week on Thursday ahead of their Week 7 Monday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Eagles listed six players under DID NOT PARTICIPATE: DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, Dallas Goedert, Nolan Smith, Willie Lampkin and Michael Carter II.

DeVonta also missed the first practice last week before gradually ramping up over the next two days. We’ll see if he and/or Wicks follow that pattern this week. Otherwise, the Eagles will almost certainly be shorthanded at receiver. DeVonta is still listed with a hamstring injury while Wicks is newly listed with an ankle injury after missing practice time due to his own hamstring injury.

Goedert missed practice with a knee injury. It’s unclear if this is the same one that caused him to miss time before. One might assume so. With the Eagles waiving EJ Jenkins, Johnny Mundt is currently the only healthy tight end on the active roster. But the Eagles could look to sign Zach Ertz from the practice squad…and/or activate fan favorite Grant Calcaterra and/or rookie Eli Stowers from injured reserve.

Smith missed practice due to the concussion he suffered in Week 6. He is likely to miss at least one game.

Lampkin missed practice due to illness. Assuming it’s not something serious, he should be available to dress for the game this week.

MC2 was seen doing some rehab work on a secondary pitch, which appears to be an improvement from last week. But he still doesn’t train. Maybe next week is in play for him.

The Eagles listed eight players under LIMITED ATTENDANCE: Saquon Barkley, Landon Dickerson, Jalyx Hunt, Jonathan Greenard, Drew Kendall, Tyler Steen, Moro Ojomo and AJ Epenesa.

Barkley reportedly ‘in line’ to play for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 4. But how he progresses over the next two days will be key. I guess he’ll at least try to suit up, but we’ll have to see if he can hold it together over the course of the match.

Dickerson has only been limited in practice since the Eagles opened his 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve. It seems unlikely to me that he will play before fully participating in practice first. Additionally, he is now listed with “knee and pec” injuries, whereas he was previously only listed with knee last week.

Hunt returning to practice shortly after seeing him suffer a scary injury in Week 5 is encouraging. Hunt wouldn’t tell reporters if he’ll play Monday, but it appears there’s a chance. If not, maybe week 8.

Greenard was counting on a number of shots in Week 7 as he played through a nagging ankle injury. I guess he’ll try dressing up again, but he’s not 100%.

Kendall could possibly return to the starting lineup this week; the Eagles kept him active as an emergency backup option in Week 6. But he’ll likely have to go through at least one full practice before playing center.

Steen suffered a shoulder injury in Week 5. The Eagles appear to be managing their starting right guard to help him get to Monday.

Ojomo was hurt in Week 6. I assume he will play, but he might see a smaller workload than usual.

Epenesa missed Week 6 with a back injury. We will see if he is able to play on Monday. With the Edge Rusher rotation, they could use him there.

The Eagles listed 10 players under FULL PARTICIPATION: Zack Baun, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Arnold Ebiketie, Jihaad Campbell, Britain Covey, Grant Calcaterra, Eli Stowers, Jakorian Bennett and Hollywood Brown.

Notable from this section:

  • Davis was at full tilt after having to be helped off the field on Sunday. It’s great to see that he will be able to play on Monday.
  • Campbell removed the word “knee” from the description of his injury. Now just “wrist”.
  • Covey is a new addition to the report with a shoulder injury.
  • Calcaterra was limited in the first two practices last week before going full Friday. He was full again today, which could indicate the Eagles activated him from injured reserve for Monday’s game. Feel the excitement!

DALLAS COWBOYS INJURY REPORT (GAMESUNDAY)

The Cowboys listed four players under DID NOT PARTICIPATE: starting off-ball linebacker Dee Winters, All-Pro returner KaVontae Turpin, veteran edge Von Miller and deep tackle Drew Shelton.

Winters was hurt in Week 6. The Cowboys defense already isn’t very good, so it doesn’t seem great for them to miss a player who has been good for them this season. Then again, it looks like DeMarvion Overshown will return this week.

Turpin, one of the NFL’s best returners, is also likely to miss this week’s game.

Miller was resting and rookie Shelton isn’t playing much anyway.

The Cowboys listed four players under LIMITED PARTICIPATION: starting wide receiver George Pickens, starting cornerback Cobie Durant, starting left tackle Tyler Guyton and edge rusher Marist Liufau.

Pickes is a new addition to the report after apparently being hit in Week 6.

Durant could potentially return to the starting lineup for the first time since he was injured in Week 2.

Guyton was listed on the Cowboys’ report as a full participant suffering from a back injury last week. Apparently he injured his calf in Week 6.

Liufau is participating in practice while he is in his 21-day window to return from injured reserve.
