Eagles-Jaguars final injury report: Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith among players ruled out

The Philadelphia Eagles released their third and final official injury report of the week on Friday ahead of their Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

The Eagles have ruled out five players: Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, Drew Kendall, Marcus Epps and Hollywood Brown.

Barkley missed practice all week with a hamstring injury. With Barkley out and Tank Bigsby on injured reserve, the Eagles are down to three healthy running backs on the active roster: Will Shipley, Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele. Pierce and Steele were recalled from the practice squad this week. Both players have provided some intrigue this summer, so it will be interesting to see if they can compete in the regular season. Of course, the Eagles’ offensive line situation might not really allow them to accomplish that.

Smith misses his second straight game with a hamstring injury. With Smith and Brown out, the Eagles are down to five wide receivers: Dontayvion Wicks, Darius Cooper, Makai Lemon, Elijah Moore and Britain Covey. Wicks will suit up despite a hamstring injury Thursday that limited him in practice the past two days. Cooper saw more snaps and targets than Lemon in Week 4; it will be interesting to see if this is the case again in London. Moore could see occasional snaps on offense (as long as he can figure out what he’s supposed to do this time). Covey will likely be limited to punt return duty.

Kendall’s absence means the Eagles will be left with their third-string center option. The Eagles called up Jake Majors from the practice squad to start at center. Majors is a 2025 undrafted rookie free agent who has never played in an NFL regular season game. He also didn’t look great in training camp this summer. Yeah.

Epps misses his second consecutive game. The Eagles will start Andrew Mukuba and Cooper DeJean at safety in base packages with DeJean moving to the slot and Michael Carter II entering the game at the back end of the defense in nickel scenarios.

The Eagles ruled a QUESTIONAL player: Jonathan Greenard.

Greenard’s status is curious since he did not practice this week. Players who don’t practice rarely participate in games. But he’s a veteran and maybe he can contribute in a limited capacity.

Players notably listed without playing status: Jalen hurts, Dontayvion Wicks, Dallas Goedert, Quinyon Mitchell, Zack BaunJihaad Campbell, Fred Johnson, EJ Jenkins and AJ Epenesa.

Hurts is a new addition to the report. He participated fully in Friday’s practice, but is dealing with a calf injury. Something to watch out for.

As previously stated, Wicks is ready to play even though he is less than 100%. Speaking at a press conference Friday morning, Nick Sirianni praised Wicks’ tenacity.

Goedert is officially back in action after missing the Eagles’ last two games. His return is certainly a positive for an undermanned offense. Look for Hurts to target him often. It will be interesting to see how the Eagles split the snaps between Goedert, Zach Ertz (assuming he is temporarily elevated from the practice squad), Johnny Mundt and EJ Jenkins. Speaking of Jenkins, he is also a new addition to the report with a toe injury, but he participated fully in Friday’s practice.

Mitchell is ready to play after suffering a knee injury in Week 4. He was at full tilt Thursday and Friday. Good news for the defense.

Baun is also back in action after missing Week 4 with a concussion. He was cleared to play.

Campbell missed some practice this week due to a knee injury, but he is ready to put on a uniform. We’ll see if the Eagles decrease his playing time while looking to get Jeremiah Trotter Jr. more involved. Vic Fangio said that’s a possibility.

Johnson is back after missing several games. He should serve as a tackle behind Jordan Mailata and Markel Bell. It could also take custody into account in a pinch.

Epenesa is a new addition to the report with a back injury. He was limited Friday but won’t be sidelined due to injury.
