Elon Musk’s Grok Releases First AI-Generated ‘Odyssey’ Episode

Months after Elon Musk promised that his AI tool Grok Imagine would create a fully AI-generated version of “The Odyssey,” the tech mogul has partially followed through on the claim.

On Friday, the company shared the first 7-minute AI-generated episode of the “Odyssey” series on X. The account also credited the “creative collaboration” to Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker, both of whom specialize in AI filmmaking.

In July, Musk announced plans to make a “historically accurate” full-length version of Homer’s ancient Greek poem. He noted that his AI “The Odyssey” would be ready by the end of 2026.

“Before the end of this year, Grok Imagine will make a feature-length film of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and faithful to the art of Homer,” he wrote, accompanied by a 3-minute AI-generated short film of “The Odyssey” posted by an X user.

At the time, Scott Derrickson, director of “Doctor Strange” and “The Black Phone,” did not hesitate to address Musk directly on social networks to denounce the absurdity of the project. “Clearly @elonmusk doesn’t know anything about film and he stopped reading in his 20s,” Derrickson wrote on Musk’s social media platform, X. “His opinions on art are worthless.”

While no further statement accompanied the AI-generated episode — nor Musk’s original tweet about creating a “historically accurate” version of “The Odyssey” — the move comes after the tech billionaire repeatedly criticized the film ahead of its release, particularly the casting of Elliot Page as the ghost of Achilles and Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy.

Musk claimed that Nolan chose both actors to meet the Academy’s standards of representation and inclusion for Oscar eligibility; in March, he wrote that “Chris Nolan is an anti-white racist,” saying he chose Nyong’o only because “he wants the accolades.”
