Florida Mom Irene Miller Arrested at Airport for Leaving 4 Kids Home Alone During Work Trip to Vegas

OSCEOLA COUNTY, FL — A central Florida mother faces multiple child neglect charges after deputies say she left her four children home alone for days while she traveled to Las Vegas.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a 911 call shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 from a child who said her 9-year-old brother was injured after a dumbbell fell on his head.

The officers rushed to the house and found that no adults were present.

In addition, four children aged 14, 12, 11 and 9 were left unsupervised.

First responders also went to the home and took the 9-year-old boy to Celebration Hospital for treatment.

Deputies said they were able to make contact with the children’s mother, identified as Irene Miller, and she told them she was working in Las Vegas and was scheduled to return on October 23.

Investigators said Miller left Oct. 18 and a babysitter came from Tampa that morning to get the children ready for school and to watch them afterward.

But, Miller said, the babysitter didn’t have to stay the night.

The 9-year-old boy, injured by the dumbbell, was released from the hospital and the children’s father was contacted and agreed to take them home.

Additionally, detectives with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said they planned to meet Miller as she got off her flight from Las Vegas at Orlando International Airport this Friday.

Miller, 50, of Kissimmee, was arrested as she exited the plane and charged with four counts of child neglect without serious bodily injury.

She was also booked into the Orange County Jail.
