A Florida mother is facing charges for allegedly leaving her four children home alone for several days while she traveled to Las Vegas for work, authorities said.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said a juvenile called 911 around 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 to report his 9-year-old brother was injured after a dumbbell fell and struck him in the head. Police responded with firefighters, who transported the boy to Celebration Hospital for treatment.
The children, ages 14, 12, 11 and 9, were alone and a deputy called their mother, 50. Irene Millerwho admitted she was in Las Vegas for work and wouldn’t return until October 23.
Miller allegedly told deputies that she had a babysitter come from Tampa in the morning to help walk the children to school and in the afternoon to watch them, but that no one stayed with them overnight.

Deputies contacted the children’s father and he agreed to take the four children to his home.
Body-worn camera video shared by the sheriff’s office shows detectives meeting Miller at the airport as his flight landed on October 23. She was arrested on four counts of child neglect with serious bodily injury and was booked into the Osceola County Jail.
“The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate child neglect,” said Sheriff Chris Blackmon. “These cases will be investigated and charges will be brought against parents who fail to properly supervise or care for their children.”
