The New England Patriots have played very well over the past two games, a promising sign for a team that didn’t look like it did a season ago. The Patriots have now won three in a row, including two division wins over the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.
They also picked up a 45-17 win over a tough Las Vegas Raiders team. Many factors contributed to the Patriots’ slow start, but quarterback Drake Maye’s struggles topped the list.
Maye hasn’t been perfect over the last three weeks, but he looks like the player everyone expected him to be.
He’s thrown 10 touchdowns in the last three weeks and just one interception, a very promising sign. While it appears Maye has figured things out and is back to his old form, one former NFL player isn’t buying it, saying the last two games were a fluke and he played against two inferior NFL teams.
“Drake Maye is a fluke. These last two games have been a fluke,” Jarvis Landry said, H/T Patriots Wire.
“He played the bottom half of the pass defense in the NFL. That middle part of that schedule is probably one of the weakest parts of the schedule I’ve ever seen, including the schedule they had last year that took them all the way to the Super Bowl. And then he gets to the Super Bowl and plays against a real defense in Seattle, and we all know what happens. Then he opens the year against Seattle, we all saw what happened.”
That’s not to say the Jets or Raiders are both elite teams, but that’s the NFL at the end of the day.
Maye needs to come out and do what he’s done best for much of his career in these matches, and that’s exactly what he did.
It’s unfair to say a player is playing bad competition when facing teams that may not be contenders, since there are only a handful in the entire league.
