Future iPhones will have one less button, according to a new rumor

Apple introduced the Action button with the iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 18 Pro still has it. Now, a tipster on Weibo claims the company is considering combining the action button and camera control into a single button on next year’s iPhones.

The dedicated Action button would begin disappearing from new iPhones in the second half of 2027. Its functions will be transferred to the Camera Control, with a single press opening the Camera app and a long press triggering the shortcut assigned to the Action button. The tipster specifically points out that it’s the action button that’s disappearing, not the camera button.

The article doesn’t name any models, so it’s unclear whether this would apply to the entire fall lineup or just part of them. Either way, the claim is that Apple will remove a physical button without giving up its customizable features.

We’ve already heard that next year’s Pro models could feature a more substantial redesign, with curved quad displays being tested in prototypes. It remains to be seen whether the rumored button change is part of this redesign.
