Several performances on Geordie Greep’s US tour were canceled following allegations of sexual misconduct made against the singer, which he denied. Since Oct. 10, the former Black Midi frontman’s sets in Boise, Salt Lake City, Boulder, Denver and Omaha have been listed as canceled on each venue’s website or no longer appearing. One remaining U.S. performance, in Des Moines, is still planned, as well as a brief November performance in Europe. Greep has not released a statement on the cancellations. Pitchfork has reached out to its representatives for comment.
The cancellations come after allegations were made against Greep at a show in Vancouver on October 8, where an attendee handed out flyers claiming the singer had committed an act of sexual misconduct. Greep then addressed the allegations on stage. “So basically what happened last night, me and some of the band members, we went to some bars, we went around, we met some people and we found ourselves in a situation where, very late at a house party, I got on the wrong end of the stick with someone who was there, and I made a gesture, and that didn’t happen and I very quickly, of course, apologized,” he told the crowd. “It was a complete misunderstanding on my part, and I felt extremely bad, I feel extremely sorry, and I’m extremely upset about the whole situation. I would never rape a woman. I’m not a rapist. That’s not how it happened.”
He added that he would play the show solo so as not to force the band to perform “in light of (what was happening)” and that proceeds from the concert would benefit an organization that supports victims of sexual violence.
