George Clooney called Presley Gerber’s death last month “the worst thing that could happen to a family” in his first comments on the tragedy.
“Quite honestly, it’s one of the most devastating things that’s ever happened to our family,” Clooney told Entertainment Tonight at the Albie on Friday night.
“And their family is just… as you can imagine.”
George’s wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, stood alongside her husband as he made the heartfelt comments.
Clooney and his wife are longtime friends of the famous family: Presley’s parents are model Cindy Crawford and George’s business partner Rande Gerber.
Together, Rande and George co-founded the Casamigos tequila brand, and their families remained friends for decades.
Presley died on September 20 of an apparent overdose while staying at a luxury sober living facility in Santa Monica, Los Angeles.
He was 27 years old.
A representative for the family told Page Six in a statement at the time that the family hoped for “privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”
Sources also told Page Six that Presley checked into the Resolutions Living facility the same weekend he was pronounced dead and was allegedly found in a room.
Dispatch audio obtained by Page Six indicated that first responders were informed of a “cardiac arrest” and an “overdose.”
Days later, footage surfaced of the model filming herself at the facility hours before her death.
One source told us that Presley “looked bad” before the tragedy, and another source told us last month that Presley’s only sibling, Kaia Gerber, 25, was having a hard time coming to terms with her older brother’s death.
“Kaia and Presley were incredibly close,” they told us of Presley and the “Shards” actress. “I don’t know how she’s going to continue without him.”
According to a Daily Mail source, Kaia called Clooney “Uncle George” and said the “O Brother, Where Art Thou” actor would “spend hours talking to Presley.”
The “Ocean’s 11” actor also “shared loving notes like, ‘I’m here for you,’ that kind of thing,” they said.
They added: “George is the nicest guy in the world and would do anything to help Rande’s family.”
Meanwhile, a source told Page Six that the Oscar winner was “completely distraught over Presley’s death.” They added: “He has known him all his life and he never imagined things would get to this point.”
The source insisted to us that George is “determined to be there for Cindy and Rande, not just now but in the months and years to come.”
