With the announcement of Fitbit Edge, Google Health introduced improved automatic activity tracking, and its rollout now begins with version 5.11 of the app.
This expanded activity tracking means the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 3, 4 and 5 go from 10 activities to over 100, including:
- Cardio machines
- Golf
- High-intensity workouts
- Racquet sports
- Strength training
- Swimming
- Team sports
The Fitbit Edge will also benefit from this upgrade. Google Health combines your workout routines, historical data, manual edits, and location (permission required) with contextual reasoning.

Workouts that result in a sustained high heart rate and meet the minimum duration threshold are automatically recorded, with a summary notification sent to the app “usually within 30 minutes.” When you “confirm or edit an activity” and record missing activities, Google will learn your models to refine future predictions.
Google claims the end result is “nearly 2x more accurate detections” while reducing “missed workouts by more than half.”
Expanded activity detection debuts with Google Health 5.11, widely available on iOS and still rolling out on Android. After updating, users see an “Extended Activity Detection, Built to Learn” screen.
