Hailey Bieber reveals ‘lonely journey’ following health scare after birth of son Jack Blues

Hailey Bieber felt alone battling premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) after giving birth to her son, Jack Blues.

The Rhode founder, 29, opened up about her diagnosis in a recent interview with Women’s Wear Daily. According to the Mayo Clinic, PMDD is a serious extension of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that causes extreme mood swings.

Behavioral symptoms may include sadness or hopelessness, anxiety, extreme mood swings, irritability, and anger.

“After I had my son, I struggled a little bit with PMDD, and there just isn’t a lot of conversation or research about it,” Bieber said.

The model said talking about her struggles helped her.

“The conversation, for me personally, makes me feel less alone,” she shared. “When we can relate to each other and have conversations about each other and talk about the things that we’re facing and struggling with, I think it makes it feel like we’re less of a lonely journey.”

Bieber told WWD that she was drawn to women’s health and frustrated by the lack of awareness about it.

“Especially after having my own child. It was just a really intense and special journey that I went through,” she explained. “There’s so much going on when you’re pregnant, during childbirth. There’s so much going on before you have a child.”

The influencer and her husband, Justin Bieber, welcomed their now 2-year-old son in August 2024.

She first revealed that she suffered from PMDD during her appearance on the “SHE MD Podcast” in May, noting that it had disrupted her work, relationships and social life.

“For me, it felt like the week before my period wasn’t just PMS,” she explained. “It was mentally extreme. Like, ‘Why do I feel like my whole life is going to end?'”

“It sucks,” she added. “It is also dangerous and needs to be taken seriously.”

Hailey isn’t the only celebrity who has spoken out about having PMDD. “Riverdale” alum Lili Reinhart, singer Zara Larsson and influencer Dixie D’Amelio have all spoken openly about the condition.

D’Amelio opened up about how it seriously affected his mental health and relationships during the Season 3 premiere of “The D’Amelio Show” on Hulu in September 2023.

“People will say, ‘Oh my God, everyone understands that.’ “Like no,” she said in a confessional.

“I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to want to die every month before you get your period,” she continued. “It’s not supposed to affect every aspect of your life, from sleep to anxiety.”

D’Amelio, 25, noted that his symptoms also included “loss of the will to live, irritability and anger.”

Most recently, Reinhart appeared on the “Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky” podcast in November 2025 and said she discovered she had “horrible PMDD” after stopping taking antidepressants and birth control.

“So the week before my period, I feel suicidal,” Reinhart, 30, said. “And I didn’t know I felt that way until I was off my medication.”
