High demand and low inventory mean the iPhone Duo is selling out quickly

As expected, Apple’s iPhone Duo saw its shipments decline instantly in most configurations.

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo began at 8 a.m. Eastern Time, and as with most – but not all – new iPhones, supplies sold out quickly. From the first moments, the shipping dates fell to November 16, then November 23, for all configurations.

Apple never says how many devices it has ready for sale on day one, but shipping dates normally provide an indication of whether a model is a success.

In this case, it’s less obvious than usual because there is another factor. Along with demand from early buyers, Apple is believed to be making fewer iPhone Duos than usual.

This could be due to the numerous reports of manufacturing delays related to such a complex new design. But there is also the fact that it is a new design and therefore demand may prove more difficult to estimate.

Additionally, the iPhone Duo is the most expensive iPhone ever made. It’s also launching at a time when the global chip shortage has driven up prices for all technologies.

You’ll still be able to place an order for the iPhone Duo, but you won’t get it when the first shipments begin on October 23. However, that same date is when the iPhone Duo will be in stores, and those stores will have at least some stock.
