Mike Malott left his fellow fighters impressed after knocking out Joaquin Buckley in the main event at UFC Edmonton.
All the pressure was on Malott to deliver in the main event as he continued his quest to become the first Canadian UFC champion since Georges St-Pierre and he rose to the occasion, blasting Buckley with a scoring knee to end their fight in the second round. It is Malott’s fifth consecutive victory and he continues to build his case for a chance at gold following a win over former title challenger Gilbert Burns last April.
The MMA community was left in awe of Malott’s victory, with fighters like Burns, Tatiana Suarez, Arnold Allen and Kenny Florian reacting with amazement to the brutal knockout. However, UFC featherweight contender Kai Kamaka added a sobering comment on Twitter, writing “Praying for Buckley,” in reaction to Buckley’s frightening collapse on the canvas.
