In January 2019, Jon Ossoff’s cell phone lit up with a frenzy of calls and texts.
The messages, streaming in from Ossoff’s colleagues at the small documentary film production company he ran, contained grim news. The previous night, one of Ossoff’s colleagues, Ghanaian journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale Divela, was driving through the Accra suburbs when two men on a motorcycle pulled up alongside his BMW and began shooting through the driver’s window. Their bullets hit Divela in the neck and chest, killing him instantly.
