representative Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) defended his relationship with the president Donald Trump in an interview for POLITICO’s “The Conversation” podcast, supporting some of the Trump’s high-profile decisions while maintaining some distance as he seeks to win his state’s governorship in November.
In an interview with POLITICO’s Dasha Burns, Donald said there was no tension between him and Trump as he tried to win in a state that swung toward the Republicans during the campaign. Asset era but could be competitive this year due to the president’s unpopularity.
“I’m a supporter of the president. He’s a supporter of mine,” Donald said. “But I think the misconception is that people think the president just wants yes-men. That’s actually not true. … I think there are times where, yes, the president and I disagree on policy, and that’s fine.”
He also defended the deletion of certain references to Asset on its website, saying it wanted to “focus on the people of Florida” and that the decision to change the website followed a month and a half of planning.
