Ilhan Omar case is ‘significant’ and targets multiple people, reveals DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the federal government’s investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar was a “significant case” involving multiple people.

“This is not just a case that targets a single individual. This is a significant case that we have presented to the DOJ, and the DOJ is leading the investigations,” he told Fox News on Friday.

Mullin said Homeland Security Investigations agents — who searched Omar’s Washington, D.C., home on Oct. 12 — “did a lot of investigation to be able to present the case to them.”

“And I’ll just say it again: We enforce the laws of our country, and we’re going to do that. We don’t use guns. We don’t use political theater in this,” he added.

Authorities are currently investigating Omar over whether the Somali-born politician engaged in an immigration fraud plot by marrying her alleged brother Ahmed Elmi, a British citizen who describes himself as gay, and whether she made false statements on government documents to obtain citizenship.

The federal government is also investigating her financial disclosures and looking into whether she inflated her net worth by tens of millions of dollars on House disclosure forms.

Mullin’s comments came the same day. The Post reported that Omar’s last name was crossed out to “Elmi” and then changed back to “Omar” on a 2009 marriage license, according to a certified copy from the government of Hennepin County, Minnesota.

When MS NOW host Chris Hayes asked her last week if she had married her brother, Omar replied: “Not that I know of.” »

Relative Timeline of Ilhan Omar

Important dates in Rep. Ilhan Omar’s past relationships that point to a potential fake marriage to her brother.

  • 1981 or 1982 — Ilhan Omar was born in Mogadishu, Somalia. Her birth year is controversial – there are allegations that she made herself a year younger so she could then obtain citizenship as a minor.
  • 1995 — After four years in a refugee camp in Kenya because of the Somali civil war, Omar and his family emigrated to the United States.
  • 2002 — Omar marries Ahmed Hirsi (right) in an Islamic ceremony. They applied for a marriage license, but, she said, “we never finalized the application and therefore were never legally married.” They have two children.
  • 2009 — Omar marries Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Evidence indicates that Elmi is her brother and that she married him so that he could live legally in the United States after the family wanted him to leave the United Kingdom.
  • 2012 — Omar was still living with Hirsi during that time, witnesses told the Post, and they had a third child this year. Elmi also reportedly left Minnesota this year.
  • 2016 — The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are investigating allegations that Omar married her brother while she is running for the Minnesota Legislature.
  • 2017 — Omar’s divorce from Elmi is finalized.
  • 2018 — Omar officially marries Hirsi. She ran for Congress for the first time and won.
  • 2019 — Omar leaves Hirsi for Tim Mynett (left), a political consultant paid by his campaign. They married the following year.
  • 2021 — A Biden-appointed U.S. attorney in Minnesota officially ends investigation into Omar’s alleged immigration fraud.

Mullin, a former Republican senator from Oklahoma, defended the investigation after former President Barack Obama publicly lambasted it.

“I have made this very, very, very, very clear: We apply the laws of our country equally across the board, and we will continue to do so,” he said.

“I don’t care where you sit, I don’t care how you’re registered to vote, I don’t care what your job title is. We use that too.”

He said Democrats “have gone after their political enemies like President Trump, and they know they’ve weaponized our Justice Department and our FBI.”

“We’re going to let the facts play out, we’re not playing politics with this – I’ve said this from day one, we’re not playing politics with anyone’s life,” Mullin emphasized earlier in the interview.

Omar has denied any wrongdoing and his lawyers have demanded the “immediate return” of all seized property. His office did not immediately respond to request for comment.
