Real Madrid don’t generate much excitement before matches these days, and a trip to the Italian capital to face Roma only provided another tricky encounter to overcome. Yan Diomande continued to play, mixed with Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham. Vinícius Júnior was also in the lineup, with Arda Güler and Bernardo Silva on the bench. Fede Valverde was captain of the team.
Roma started the match with four long shots, all causing some concern for Thibaut Courtois. They then took the lead from outside the area, as a central shot deceived the diving Courtois. Kylian Mbappé momentarily spared Madrid’s blushes with a clever turn and slightly lucky effort. Marc Cucurella and Jude Bellingham would come close, but Madrid would end the half with the score 1-1.
Donyell Malen was dangerous in the first half and opened the scoring in the second with a weak effort deflected past Thibaut Courtois. He would become a bigger problem after being passed up to score his second and a third for Roma. Kylian Mbappé seemingly pulled one back but the flag was correctly raised for offside. Arda Güler, Carlos Espí and Endrick were brought on, but Espí continued his super-sub run, latching on to a header from a corner. The other substitute, Endrick, then gave Madrid a lifeline after scoring with a header to equalize. Antonio Rüdiger would complete the recovery by scoring another goal from a corner. It ended up being awkward, but Real Madrid managed to win 4-3. What did you think of this display?
