THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is not running for office this year, but he is campaigning in his home state as if he were.
Rather than running, Cruz brilliantly makes the case for the Republican Senate candidacy of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Cruz, a staunch conservative, is trying to rally the party’s base in a year when Republicans fear many of their voters will stay home. He invested money to support Paxton, introduced the attorney general to his vast network of donors and even gave him sartorial advice after President Donald Trump mocked Paxton’s appearance despite supporting him.
