Injury report: Seattle Seahawks rule out 7 players against Cardinals

The Seattle Seahawks won’t just be shorthanded at quarterback this week.

Seahawks LG Quenton Nelson to undergo ‘minor’ knee surgery

Seattle left three defensive tackles out of the Pro Bowl Leonard Williams (stinger), peak veteran Uchenna Nwosu (ankle), left tackle Charles Cross (ankle), All-Pro triple left guard Nelson Nelson (knee) and wide receiver Rachid Shaheed (knee) for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Seahawks have already ruled out the starting quarterback Sam Darnold (quad, ribs) at the start of the week.

Good news, head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed Friday that backup quarterback Drew Lock (right elbow) will start Sunday in place of Darnold. Lock was inactive the last two games due to an elbow issue and was limited in practice all week, but he does not have a game status designation on Friday’s injury report.

Meanwhile, Nelson will undergo “minor” knee surgery and will be “week to week,” Macdonald announced Friday.

Macdonald said Nelson aggravated a knee problem he suffered when Seattle acquired him in last week’s blockbuster trade with the Indianapolis Colts. Nelson played every offensive play in the Seahawks’ loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night.

Williams went out with a stinger against the Bears and will miss his first game since Week 4 of the 2024 season. Nwosu, Cross and Shaheed will each miss their second straight game.

The Seahawks also ruled out a backup nose tackle Brandon Pili (fullback) and listed reserve edge rusher Connor O’Toole (foot) as questionable.

Cardinals injury report

Arizona has ruled out starting left tackle Jayden Williams (knee), backup running back Knight Bam (concussion) and backup center Jon Gaines II (ankle).

The Cardinals also listed starting cornerback Max Melton (knee), starting defensive tackle Walter Nolen III (ankle) and starting right guard Isaiah Adams (ankle) as questionable. Adams is on injured reserve, but has returned to practice.
