Iran talks security in Middle East, urges region to eliminate US influence

Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei sharply criticized Washington’s regional stance, saying decades of US military presence have failed to establish stability in the Middle East.

In a statement published on X, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the vulnerability of Western defense commitments is now undeniable.

“America has not provided security to any country in the region, and Washington’s inability to provide security guarantees has become evident,” Rezaei wrote on X in a message translated into English.

“Security in West Asia must come from within the region itself and any foreign intervention must be prevented.”

Rezaei’s remarks directly target Gulf and neighboring countries that rely on U.S. security arrangements, saying external military deployments create instability rather than deterrence.

Tehran actively advocates for a localized security architecture, urging neighboring capitals – notably Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan – to manage regional disputes internally and gradually cease reliance on Western forces.

The comments come as Iran and its terrorist proxies like the Houthis in Yemen continue to threaten shipping in shipping lanes like the Strait of Hormuz.
